Going Deep: No debate over the Permastarters

Dez Brynat (1) and Brandon Pettigrew celebrateWhy choose from just two options when you can choose from over 120? Here are some early returns before your ballots are due.

  1. Mike Crabtree, Texas Tech at Texas A&M (BlitzIndex D#107) – START OF THE WEEK (why did I sit him in the Head2Head league?)
  2. Jarett Dillard, Rice host Southern Mississippi (88) – multiple TDs are a lock for the all-time career record holder for WR TDs.
  3. Dez Bryant (right, Icon SMI), Oklahoma State hosts Baylor (63) – Pokes need to mind the possibiity of a let down – if they don’t, Bear QB Robert Griffin likely will remind them quickly.
  4. Jeremy Maclin, Missouri at Texas (20) – game of the week, Longhorns likely to win but they will give up passing yards and scores.
  5. Chris Williams NMSU hosts San Jose State (27) – quick tally has the Spartans as #13 fantasy scoring defense in last three weeks, but that was against Hawaii and Utah State. Dick Tomey is a defensive god at the pro and college levels but Williams is quite consistent (just not in the end zone yet)
  6. Mike Thomas, Arizona hosts Cal (22) – another great talent who needs to see the end zone more, only one trip to paydirt in the last three weeks (five of them were to the Gronk.)
  7. Austin Collie and Dennis Pitta, BYU travels to TCU (10) – toughest defense that the Cougs will face all year, and this game will likely be the watermark that colors the background of the season. I expect that Collie, Pitta and Hall will rise to the occasion. RISK: two of our top ten defenses square off (BYU is #8), and that tends to point to low scoring games. Pitta has had three quiet games in a row while Collie has outscored Hall in fantasy points.
  8. Brandon Banks, K-State at Colorado (78) – Cats QB Freeman has 8 TDs RUSHING in the last four weeks (ballhog!), but I would likely call the sneak if i had a mobile 250 pounder under center. Banks has a couple quiet games in a row so look for him to pick it back up.
  9. Erron Riley, Duke host Miami (FL) (58) – Riley’s hand is better, and the Hurricane defense is so bad it gives opponents great field position (105th in nation in Yards per point). Sounds like a strong game for the Dookies.
  10. Eric Decker, Minnesota idle. Likely needs the rest after the last four weeks . (7 runs for 48 yds, 43 recs for 607 and 3TDs.)
  11. Percy Harvin, Florida idle. Likely needs the rehab time.
  12. Emmanuel Sanders and Aldrick Robinson, SMU hosts Houston (75) – Rejoice for Emmanuel  to get deep on the Cougars who allow some big plays (84th in Yards per play allowed at 5.56)
  13. Mark Hafner, Houston at SMU (115)- Ever notice the new Houston logo looks like Brak from Space Ghost?
  14. Casey Fitzgerald, North Texas at La.-Monroe (91) – Black Swan should continue his big game ways. After weeks of offensive ineptitude (that matched well with the defense), Fitz has two straight quality starts. Remember the add of the week for this game also.
  15. Bryan Anderson, CMU hosts Western Michigan – this game was on my Road Trip list at the beginning of the year, but high gas prices and difficult flights into Mount Pleasant scratched it off. Nice to see a healthy BA back in the mix with his first quality start (8-149T1).
  16. Mostlystarters…

Darius Passmore – at UAB (110) the trip is a bear, but Marshall should roll as two bye weeks sandwich this game so they should have plenty of focus.

Jamarko Simmons, WMichigan at CMU (89) – big fella is 8th in country in WR scoring the last four weeks, consistency is his key as QB Tim Hiller puts himself in the Davey O’Brien discussions.

Jordan Shipley, Texas hosts Missouri (38) – ginormous game in the Red River Rivalry, it would be unwise to expect such a performance again. But I would settle for close.

    Who’s Hot?

Shawn Bynes, Kent State (idle) – TD in four straight games

Manuel Johnson, Oklahoma versus Kansas – 7 TD in last three games – start in all formats.

Kerry Meier, Kansas at OU (29)- NFL Draft gurus trying to make sense of a guy putting up these numbers with minimal experience at the position. Min 7 catches and 94 yards over last four.

    Who’s Cold

Jamar Bryant, ECU – just got suspended for the year, doubt he is on many rosters still.

Taylor Price, Ohio – remember his big Week One at lowly Wyoming? he has fewer catches in the last five (13) than he did in the opener (14). Yeech.

    Sleepers

Philip Livas, Louisiana Tech hosts Idaho (119) – yet to hand the ball to the official before an extra point, but he has done everything else possible to be the center of the Bulldog offense. How they long for the days of Tim Rattay and Troy Edwards in Ruston.

Darell McNeal, ULM at North Texas (120) see Add of the Week special edition.
