Top 13 Fantasy College Football Games

Posted: August 21, 2008 in college football

Drew and I were working on the criteria for this list – we chose 13 games for the number’s mystical qualities and we looked at games that would promise offensive fireworks. SO in general, here is what we expect:

  • 70 points or more
  • 900 yards or more
  • Porous defenses facing talented offenses

So check your GamePlan schedule or set your DVR, here is must-see fantasy TV.

Rice at SMU, Week One

So loaded with potential fantasy stars, even without Justin Willis at the helm of the Mustang offense. WR Jarett Dillard and Emmanuel Sanders may get three TDs each. They have the nation’s focus all to themselves for a Friday night tilt on Aug. 29. Get yer popcorn.

Northwestern at Duke, Week Two

Likely at least one future US Senator will be on the field, but these two programs have a lot going for them this year. And maybe the Cutcliffe offense will find its stride against the struggling wildcats D.

Texas Tech at Nevada, Week Two

Luckily Tech gets to Reno before it gets bone-chilling cold. Usually Tech has no defense and would make this a huge scoring fest, but this year we expect them to be more stout. Regardless, his could easily go 51-35.

Tulsa at North Texas, Week Two

Remember when Navy visited Denton last year? this could get more ridiculous. These two colorful teams will be much better this year, but I expect a gluttony of offense. How would you like to see Casey Fitzgerald and Brennan Marion in the same game? It will be a freaking tennis match.

Ohio State at USC, Week Three

Even if this finishes 13-10 it must be on any top list for 2008. You will see ten first-day draft picks on the field during this one, and you must go to your calendar now and mark off the evening on September 13.

Central Michigan at Purdue, Week Four

Again? They played each other twice last year with the Boilermakers winning 45-22 in September (remember that CMU QB LeFevour started slowly in 2008) and a 51-48 exposition in the Motor City Bowl.

Rice at Tulsa, Week Six

Tulsa might score 70 on their own. And if Dillard could get loose on a good Florida State defense a couple years ago, he will get deep on these canes.

Tulsa at SMU, Week Seven

Yes, we know Tulsa is in her thrice…they deserve it. The only squad to create 600 ypg last year (most of that in the Bowling Green bowl game I think) squares off against the #1 up and coming squad.

Missouri at Baylor, Week Ten

These squads have not played since 2005, and most of the Baylor improvement is expected on offense (we are rooting for ya, B-Sizzle!).

Florida vs. Georgia, Week Ten

Jacksonville hosts the annual get together that has three top ten players at their positions (Tebow, Harvin, Moreno). If Harvin were healthy they could all be Top 5. This game goes over 50 or under 30 every year.

Boise State at New Mexico State, Week Ten

Fans of the FCB may realize that we hit the road to catch the 58-0 win by the Broncos last year on the blue turf, but I expect this year will be a much better contest in Las Cruces.

Ball State at Central Michigan, Week Thirteen

I would so be there if it weren’t a Wednesday and I weren’t in Boulder the weekend before. Two NFL quality QBs getting it done in a battle for the MAC crown should produce fireworks.

Texas Tech at Oklahoma, Week Thirteen

Like Florida vs. Georgia, this one has national title implications if the season plays out the way I envision. PLUS you have two of the most loaded offenses in the country against a strong Sooner D and a respectable Raider group. During the Harrell regime, points scored just keep going higher…last year the Raiders won 34-27. Can they get to 70?
